Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows 7

August 8, 2009 – 9:10 am

Here at Brandstar we always think it’s worthwhile trying to learn a few shortcuts to make your computer use faster and less complicated.  Below are a few of our favourite shortcuts for the New Windows 7!

Windows logo key (WinKey) + Spacebar = Preview the desktop

Windows logo key (WinKey) + X = Open Windows Mobility Center

Windows logo key (WinKey) + T = Cycle through programs on the taskbar

Windows logo key (WinKey) + P = Choose a presentation display mode

Windows logo key (WinKey) + a number = Open up a new program from the taskbar.  The number you select must correspond with the order of programs from the taskbar.  For example, say you wanted to open Mozilla Firefox and it was the 4th program along on the taskbar you’d type ‘Windows logo key (WinKey) + 4′

Alt + Windows logo key (WinKey) + a number = Opens up a jumplist from a program in the task bar.  A jumplist is basically a list of your most used or recently used documents from that program.  The number again corresponds with the order of the products from the task bar.  For example, say I wanted to view the jumplist for Microsoft Office Word and it was 3rd on my taskbar I’d press ‘Alt + Windows logo key (WinKey) +3′

Ctrl + Windows logo key (WinKey) + a number = This opens up the last active windows in the corresponding program from the taskbar.  For instance, say you wanted to view a Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheet you just closed and that Excel is the 7th program on your taskbar you’d have to press ‘Ctrl + Windows logo key (WinKey) + 7′
